Little farmhouse bathroom!
Hey ya'll! So this won't be a crazy lengthy post. I just wanted to share with everyone my newest bathroom changes! Let me first start by saying, EVERYONE makes mistakes! And i'll be the first to admit I made some major ones when first re-doing this bathroom. But! I believe I've finally figured out the best way to style this space. One of the things about this bathroom is that it's long and narrow. When we first purchased, it had two dark navy accent walls, back splash colors I didn't love, and a mirror and light fixtures that I just wanted to get out of there!
Looking at these before photos, of course it wasn't terrible. I had a lot to work with. Mainly, although nice and updated, it just didn't fit the style I was going for throughout the house and the mirror was just placed too high for me to be able to use it comfortably.
Good news is that we replaced the light fixture and with a lot of yanking we got that old mirror out and added a much longer and wider one and using my go to tool, chalk paint, I hand painted the back splash a uniformed black!
So here's where I made my big mistake. I kind of liked the idea of accent walls, but didn't want blue. Just not a fan of it! So we decided on a nice charcoal almost black color. It looked nice, however over time I began to realize just how small such a bold and dark color can make an already small space feel. I think in a larger and wider bathroom, this may have worked... and no it's not like it just completely ruined the bathroom. But, my tip to you is that dark colors shrink a room, and bright colors give the illusion of a more open and spacious room. This is a good trick when dealing with small and odd shaped rooms!
Now! Here's what I did. In typical Meg/farmhouse fashion, I opted for bright white and MAN does it open up this space. I also added a simple window treatment with a nice black rod to add some contrast back into that wall! But I wasn't just going to paint everything white. For a long time I've been dying to have a green vanity so I decided this was the perfect time to do it. Here's the crazy part... I bought an 8 ounce jar of Waverly brand chalk paint (walmart) in the color moss ($6!) and I only needed to use a little over half of it for the entire vanity. This stuff goes a LONG way. So here it is! Our newest changes to our little bathroom!
I'm really happy with the results, and the air of this room just feels larger and brighter now so i'm definitely thinking I came back from my mistake! I hope you guys enjoyed reading! I can't wait to share with you soon some really exciting projects I have in the works. I know my house is and will probably always evolve and change over time. And that's all just part of the fun!
Until next time ya'll!
